Let us tell you a bit about ourselves

We have a wonderful team of professionals that are passionate about living healthy and helping others do the same.

Gail

Gail founded Simcoe Natural Foods with her husband Tim back in 1987. Their youngest child had severe food allergies and was very sick as a baby, but regained his health once his diet was changed. Gail is passionate about healthy eating and living.

 

Favourite healthy recipe: Deliciously Wheat-Free Chocolate Cake

1 (15 oz.) can black beans, rinsed and drained
5 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt
6 Tablespoons cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup honey
1 stick unsalted real butter

In a food processor or blender, mix beans, 3 eggs, and vanilla. Add salt, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, honey and butter (cut into chunks) and mix again. Add remaining eggs and mix til smooth. Pour into parchment lined, round cake pan and bake at 325 for 40 – 45 minutes or until done. For cupcakes, be sure to use liners, and bake for less time.

 

Favourtie healthy snack: Somersaults are a new snack that is a crunchy nugget baked with sunflow seeds and toasted grains. They are nut free (made from sunflower seeds instead) and are only 140 calories per serving!

I have worked at Simcoe Natural Foods for 11 years.  My children and I were experiencing different health issues and we were running to the doctor on a  regular basis.  After talking with different people and doing a lot of reading I decided to explore alternative health modalities.   Being able to help other with their health issues and watching the changes in their health as they learn and grow is an amazing feeling.

 

Favourite healthy recipe: One of my favourite recipes is Chocolate Pudding.
2 ripe avocados
½ cup maple syrup
½ cocoa powder
1 ripe banana

 

Blend well together and serve chilled

 

Favourite healthy snack: I love chocolate so the Kayer Chocolate truffle bars are one of my favourite.

 

Working in the health industry has made me much more conscience of what I put in my mouth.  It has also made me explore all the different modalities that are available and I have taken numerous courses that enable me to help my family and others in a much greater capacity. 

 

Since working as Simcoe Natural Foods I have learned that most people rarely associate how they feel with what they put in their mouth.  Remember – we are what we eat!

 

We live as healthy a lifestyle as we can and try to follow The Rule – everything in moderation.

I have worked at Simcoe Natural Foods for 6 years.  I was interested in working at Simcoe Natural Foods because I suffer from numerous food allergies.  I wanted to help other people realize that they didn't need to feel limited by their allergies – that there were many alternatives and they could find them here.

 

The best part of this job is helping people.  There's nothing better than having a customer come back happier and healthier.

 

Favourite healthy recipe: A favourite family recipe – Apple Flax Seed Muffins (Wheat Free)
1 ¼ cup ground flax
2 tsp aluminum-free baking powder
1 tbsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
½ tsp sea salt
2/3 cup xylitol sweetener
4 large eggs beaten
¼ cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
½ cup water
1 tbsp vanilla
1 meidum apple (grated)
½ cup chopped pecans (optional)

 

Preheat oven 350 degrees.  Mix dry ingredients.  Mix wet ingredients.  Add dry ingredients to wet and mix thoroughly.  Let stand for 10 minutes. Pour into muffin tins. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. 

 

Favourite healthy snack: My favourite health food snack is the kelp chips. I love that they're dairy free and still taste like sour cream or cheddar.  They are my guilt free treat!

 

Even though we tried to eat healthy before I worked here, I love that my children have become aware of what they put in their bodies now that they're old enough to make their own choices. I learn new an interesting things here everyday not just from the health product representatives, but also from our customers.  Our family tries to stay healthy by eating meals that are balance and healthful.  My two boys love lots of vegetables and salads!

In early spring, Simcoe Natural Foods had an opening for another employee, so this was my opportunity to come on board.  With a few minor health issues, my co-workers have taught me how to better manage my health and in doing so, I'm learning to offer knowledge to customers.  As a senior who is semi-retired, I feel in many ways life is just beginning.  Age is just a number and there is always time to improve your health and well being.

Favourite Recipe: Spinach Salad with Strawberries and Pine nuts.

1 English cucumber, peeled and diced
2 1/2 Cups baby spinach
2 Cups cut strawberries
3 Tbsp roasted pine nuts
1/2 Tbsp Dijon mustard
1 Tbsp honey
2 Tbsp grape seed oil
1 Tbsp white wine vinegar
Sea salt and pepper to taste

Combine first 4 ingredients in large salad bowl.  In small bowl mix last 5 ingredients and whisk together.  I like to have the dressing on the side and add as needed.  Enjoy!

Favourite snack: A quick, easy snack that travels well are Almonds.  My favourite this week is the flavoured Tamari Almonds.

One thing I have learned in life is:  we only have one body and a responsibility to take good care of it, if not then how can we enjoy all the fun things that life offers?
